Weddings

So if your not brown you might be wondering what a brown wedding may be like!
Well its completly different from an American one as you will soon see!

First all we have the dholki (for groom's side) or mehndi (for bride's side)

Then come the awesome dance performance, usually done by the siblings of the bride/groom and/or by close friends! This is usually done on Mehndi night the first of the three nights of the 'wedding'

Also on the mehndi night is the customary Mehndi/Henna! Friends of the bride (almost always girls) as well as siblings bring out this wonderful plate of henna, which we will then apply to a leaf on the bride's hand. This is a just a customary 'rasam' or tradition that is done at most desi weddings...

After the Mehndi night comes before the actual shaadi or wedding night when all the official documents are signed and the bride and groom are congratulated on being and official couple! But on the mehndi night as the name might imply the bride gets to put on the most beautiful henna! In fact many girls put on henna, its something we consider to be beautiful and used for joyous occasions.

Sometimes at really awesome weddings brides are carried in on dholis! These dholis are usually carried by male siblings and/or cousins.
